Family travel is the mainstay of the summer tourism market. Data shows that the proportion of family travel by air this summer is approximately 38%, a slight increase compared to the same period last year. Popular family travel destinations this summer are concentrated in cities rich in educational resources and with well-developed cultural and tourism facilities. Sichuan's abundant cultural and natural science resources cater to both children's educational needs and the family's leisure and vacation needs, resulting in a significant increase in bookings for family-themed hotels and immersive vacation packages. The top ten most popular destinations are, in order: Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Xi'an, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Zhuhai. Chengdu not only ranks first in the national family travel list, but its two major attractions—the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and the Sanxingdui Museum—are also highly favored by families.

"Traveling to a city to watch a game, or attending a performance to embark on a journey" is a major highlight of cultural and tourism consumption across the country this summer. Data from the Tongcheng Travel platform shows that popular mass sports events and various cultural activities during the summer have a significant impact on cultural and tourism consumption in related destinations. The top ten popular destinations for "sports, entertainment, and tourism" in the summer of 2026 are: Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing, Shenyang, Guiyang, and Qingdao. In the "sports, entertainment, and tourism" category, Chengdu ranks fourth nationwide. Top-tier concerts and European film weeks are held in succession, and the rich cultural and performing arts activities attract a large number of tourists who make special trips to Chengdu. Many tourists combine watching performances with city sightseeing, directly boosting local accommodation and catering consumption.

In the inbound tourism sector, the popularity of mainland travel by Hong Kong and Macao compatriots during the summer vacation maintained double-digit growth. Many Hong Kong and Macao tourists included Sichuan in their domestic long-distance trips to visit panda habitats and the scenery of western Sichuan plateau. Chengdu also ranked among the top cities in terms of popularity of inbound tourism during the summer vacation.
