Serbia has been experiencing a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures in many areas exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. As a landlocked country, Serbia lacks beaches for cooling off, but locals have their own secret to staying cool: the mountains and riverbanks.

CCTV reporter Wang Jingxiu: About 30% of Serbia's land is covered by forests, and most of these mountain forests are not far from cities. It usually only takes one to two hours to get from the hot and noisy city to the cool mountain forest. This unique advantage of being able to "go whenever you want" makes going to the mountains to escape the summer heat a top choice for many locals.

Frushka National Park, located in northern Serbia, is a prime example. Established in 1960, it is Serbia's oldest national park. Approximately 90% of its area is covered by forests, and the dense greenery effectively blocks out the scorching sun and high temperatures.

Park restaurant manager Ivanic: As you can see, it's very lively here. The Frushka Mountains stretch for 80 kilometers and have about six or seven popular hiking spots.

In addition to vast forests, the park also features numerous streams and small lakes. Visitors can hike along forest trails, enjoying the natural air conditioning, or dive into the cool lakes for a swim and play in the water, fully enjoying the summer comforts.

While escaping to the mountains to cool off is a popular choice for locals on weekends or holidays, cooling off by the river has long been integrated into the daily lives of many. On the riverbanks near Novi Sad, Serbia's second-largest city, residents can be seen everywhere seeking respite from the heat.

A local resident said, "We come here every day. There's a river and a park, and it's cool enough to enjoy under the trees or in the water. The only problem is that the water level is lower this year, which has caused us some trouble." (Source: CCTV News)
