Although autumn has officially begun, afternoon temperatures remain high in many parts of the country, with some areas even reaching above 35°C. At the same time, the temperature difference between day and night is increasing significantly, and localized severe convective weather is frequent. Fog is common in the early morning and showers are common in the afternoon, all of which pose challenges for road trips.

The transportation department reminds travelers that when driving at this time of year, it is important to be aware of both the heat and sudden weather changes. Please keep the following travel tips in mind.

First, prevent overheating and tire blowouts. Road surface temperatures remain high in the afternoon, so be sure to check coolant and engine oil levels and clean the radiator fins before setting off. Carefully inspect the tire sidewalls for bulges or cracks. If the coolant temperature warning light comes on while driving, pull over and let the engine idle to cool down; do not immediately open the radiator cap.

Secondly, prevent fatigue driving and discomfort caused by temperature differences. Drowsiness is common from noon to 3 pm; take a break after driving continuously for no more than 2 hours. The temperature difference between morning and evening is significant; avoid setting the car's air conditioning too low to prevent discomfort caused by excessive temperature differences when entering and exiting the vehicle, which can impair reaction time.

Third, be prepared for sudden weather changes. Thunderstorms will increase after the start of autumn. Please check the weather forecast along your route before traveling. If you encounter heavy rainfall, reduce your speed, increase the distance between vehicles, and turn on your fog lights. Fog is likely to form on mountain roads in the early morning. When visibility is low, be sure to turn on your low beam headlights and side marker lights. If necessary, pull into a service area to wait.

Fourth, guard against "hidden killers" inside the car. Do not place lighters, power banks, reading glasses, or other items exposed to direct sunlight on the dashboard, as even in the afternoon sun, they may still explode. Never leave children or pets alone in a closed car, as the interior temperature can rise rapidly even if it drops slightly.

Fifth, prepare emergency supplies in the vehicle. It is recommended to carry sufficient drinking water, sunshade, and heatstroke prevention medicine, as well as a light jacket to cope with the temperature difference between morning and evening. In case of emergency, remember to "pull over, evacuate, and call the police immediately".

The weather is currently unpredictable; drivers are advised to plan their trips accordingly, avoiding the afternoon heat and rainy periods to ensure a safe journey. (Source: CCTV News)
