A Slow-Paced 7-Day Trip to Changchun: A 7-Day, 6-Night Double-Trip Itinerary Suitable for Seniors and Children

Changchun's tourist routes are often compressed into one or two days of sightseeing, but it is actually more suitable for a week-long leisurely trip. This itinerary is designed for 7 days and 6 nights, with the core principle of "2 to 3 places per day, taking public transportation whenever possible instead of walking, and alternating between indoor and outdoor activities", making it suitable for travelers with elderly people, preschool children, or those who simply don't want to rush.

Day 1: A gentle start with the Puppet Emperor's Palace and Xinmin Street.

It's recommended to arrive before noon on the first day and head directly to the Puppet Emperor's Palace Museum. Focus on only three areas: Tongde Hall, Jixi Building, and the East Imperial Garden. The interior is mostly single-level, accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, and takes about two and a half hours. After leaving the museum, walk to Xinmin Street, a street lined with "Asian Style" historical buildings. The sidewalks are wide and shaded by trees. Walk south from the Geological Palace to Xinmin Square; there's no need to enter the buildings. In the evening, take a stroll along the west bank of Nanhu Park. The lakeside path is paved and level, perfect for concluding your visit.

Day 2: Jingyuetan - Only the gentle slope section.

Jingyuetan National Forest Park is quite large, so it's not recommended to walk the entire loop around the lake with elderly people or children. You can take the park shuttle bus to the Forest Bathing Area station, then walk along the wooden boardwalk towards Tannan Square. The one-way trip is about two kilometers, with a slope of no more than five degrees. Stop at rest points in the forest along the way; there's no need to climb the observation tower. In the afternoon, return to the lakeside and relax by the water near the Jingyuetan Ski Resort station. If you still have energy in the evening, you can visit the indoor shopping area "This Mountain," which features gently sloping corridors; this is also a good option on rainy days.

Day 3: Suburban dual-line branch, either the hot spring line or the Liaota Wetland line.

From the third day onwards, you can choose one of two options based on the weather and your interests. Option A: Shuangyang Hot Springs. In the morning, head to Shenlufeng Scenic Area and take the internal shuttle bus to a platform halfway up the mountain to see the deer. The wooden boardwalk is gentle; there is no glass walkway or summit climb. In the afternoon, transfer to Guoxin Nanshan Hot Springs. The hot spring and rest areas have short routes, suitable for families to rest in sections. Option B: Nong'an Liao Pagoda and Boluo Lake. In the morning, depart from the city center and arrive in Nong'an in about an hour to see the Liao Dynasty octagonal thirteen-story brick pagoda. The square in front of the pagoda is flat. In the afternoon, visit Boluo Lake National Nature Reserve, observing birds and viewing wetlands along the lakeside road. Avoid entering dirt paths to prevent slippery conditions.

Day 4: Branching out and concluding, adding a museum and sculpture park.

Option A allows for a leisurely morning stroll in Shuangyang, choosing to walk around Shixi River Park or the area near the hot spring hotel, before checking out at noon and returning to Changchun. Option B involves a morning exploration of the streets and alleys of Nong'an Ancient Town, visiting historical sites such as the old post office and the God of Wealth Temple, before returning to the city in the afternoon. The afternoon is dedicated to the Jilin Provincial Museum, focusing on its general history and the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army exhibition halls. The museum has a full range of elevators, and the visit takes approximately two hours. After closing, a leisurely walk along the west side of Changchun World Sculpture Park is recommended, focusing only on the outdoor sculpture group; the entire park is not necessary.

Day 5: Changchun Film Studio, Tram Route 54 and Guilin Road

In the morning, visit the Changchun Film Studio Museum. The film studio exhibition area and the old cinema section are indoors on the ground, taking about an hour and a half. Afterwards, exit through the Changchun Film Studio gate and experience the No. 54 tram. It's recommended to take it four or five stops from Changchun Film Studio Station towards Xi'an Road and then return the same way to avoid peak-hour congestion. In the afternoon, stroll along Guilin Road, mainly featuring old-fashioned pastry shops, grocery stores, and small parks. We won't be visiting during the night market hours, preserving the local atmosphere without being too tiring.

Day 6: Ethnic Customs and Beihu Wetland

In the morning, visit the Northeast Nationalities and Folk Customs Museum, focusing on the reconstructions of Manchu, Korean, and Mongolian life scenes. The exhibition hall has wide passageways and plenty of seating. In the afternoon, go to Changchun Beihu National Wetland Park, walking only the paved path from the South Gate to the Bird Watching Tower, a round trip of about three kilometers. If there is strong wind or you are not physically fit, you can take the Yitong River Greenway from Saide Bridge to Weixing Road, which is mostly a straight path with benches for rest along the way.

Day 7: Morning Park and Return Trip

No long-distance stops are planned for the last day. In the early morning, you can go for a morning exercise at Nanhu Park or Changchun Park, taking a half-hour walk along the lakeside or a flat path under the trees. Afterwards, pack your luggage. If you want to buy souvenirs, go to Chongqing Road or the train station area; we do not recommend going to the wholesale market. Check out before noon and head to the train station or airport according to your return time.

Recommended gentle slope routes suitable for the elderly and children

The preferred routes are the wooden boardwalk from Jingyuetan Forest Bathing Area to Tannan Square, the western section of the Nanhu Park loop, and the paved path from the south gate of Beihu Wetland to the birdwatching tower. Within the city, the section west of Changchun World Sculpture Park and the Saide Bridge section of the Yitong River Greenway are recommended. Avoid the Jingyuetan hiking trail, the Lianhuashan stone steps, the Shenlufeng glass walkway, and the unpaved section of Beihu Wetland.

List of frequently used local apps

For transportation, you can prepare "12306 Railway", "Changchun E-Travel", "Baidu Maps" or "Gaode Maps"; for dining and venue reservations, use "Meituan", "Dianping" and the official WeChat account of Jilin Provincial Museum; for scenic spot ticket purchases and real-time information, you can check the official mini-program of Jingyuetan; for weather changes, it is recommended to install "Caiyun Weather" or the weather widget on your phone; for hailing a taxi, you can use "Didi Chuxing" or local taxi platforms.

Clothing suggestions for rainy and dry seasons

The rainy season in Changchun is concentrated in July and August, often with short-term heavy rainfall. It's essential to bring a folding umbrella and non-slip shoes. Elderly people and children should bring a light jacket to cope with the temperature drop after the rain. The dry season is mainly from April to May and September to October, with large temperature differences between day and night and frequent sandstorms. It's recommended to wear layers like an "onion" layer: a quick-drying inner layer, a fleece or thin sweater in the middle, and a windproof outer layer. Children and the elderly should also wear a scarf to protect their necks. If traveling after November, down jackets and non-slip boots are necessary, and the time spent outdoors in some sections of this itinerary should be shortened.
