Thailand plans to charge foreign tourists an entry fee of 400 to 450 baht per person.
Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak revealed that the National Tourism Policy Committee has reviewed a proposal to levy a tourism fee (commonly known as an "entry fee") on foreign tourists and agreed to submit the charging method and standard for public consultation. The preliminary proposed fee is 400 to 450 baht per person, and the possibility of collecting the fee through airlines, websites, apps, payment points, and integration with accommodation systems is being explored.
Surasak stated that the plan still requires extensive consultation with various parties, and the pricing standards and methods will be reviewed based on the current situation, while also taking into account the practices of other countries. After completing public consultation, it will be submitted again to the National Tourism Policy Committee for review, and then submitted to the Cabinet for approval according to procedures.
Regarding the timing of the fee collection, if the relevant regulations are officially published in the Government Gazette, it is expected that the air entry fee will be implemented in 180 days; while land and sea entry are expected to require about 360 days to prepare the system, as border crossing management is more complex, especially in areas with high tourist and public traffic such as the Sadao border crossing.
The proceeds will be incorporated into relevant funds for tourism attraction and infrastructure development, research, talent cultivation, tourism promotion, and tourist insurance, safety, and health protection. (Source: China Overseas Chinese Network)
