南京路步行街

Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is about 1200 meters long, with numerous shops lining both sides. Looking along the street, modern buildings are interspersed with old European-style structures, and vertically hung shop light boxes stretch endlessly. Especially at night, the flickering neon lights create a unique charming atmosphere. You can also take the "Dangdang Car", a mini version of the old-fashioned tram, to experience the vibe of old Shanghai. The pedestrian street starts at Middle Xizang Road (east side of People's Square) in the west and ends at Middle Henan Road in the east, with a dark red marble stele at each end. Walking on the pedestrian street, you can see creative urban sculptures, unique street lamps, flower beds and telephone booths everywhere. If you look down, you will find many manhole covers engraved with patterns of different urban buildings, and there are plenty of chairs in the middle of the street for tourists to take a rest. As one of the most bustling commercial streets in Shanghai, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street was already a gathering place for department stores as early as the early 20th century, and you will definitely gain a lot when strolling here. Nowadays, there are time-honored department stores such as Yong'an Department Store, Hualian Commercial Building (Zhonglian Branch) and Silk Commercial Building, as well as large shopping malls including New World City, Shanghai Shimao International Plaza, Shanghai Landmark Plaza, Henderson Celebrity Shopping Center and Hongyi International Plaza (East Nanjing Road Branch), where you can buy almost any kind of goods. Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is also a paradise for foodies. The shopping malls here are equipped with various brand fashion restaurants and coffee shops, and there are also many restaurants and food stores, such as Laokele Restaurant, Dexing Guan and Cuiting Restaurant that specialize in Shanghai local cuisine, as well as food and pastry stores like No.1 Food Store and Shen Dacheng Pastry Shop.
