马勒别墅

Moller Villa is a private garden villa completed in 1936. Its main building is a three-story Nordic Norwegian-style structure with extremely exquisite interior decoration. Wall panels are installed in aisles and corridors, with beautiful and delicate carvings everywhere. Colored glass is mounted on the indoor vaulted ceiling, presenting gorgeous and soft colors under sunlight. It was originally owned by the wealthy Jewish businessman Moller, and changed hands several times later. In 2002, it was transformed into Shanghai Moller Villa Hotel and opened to the public. The main building has three floors, with two hipped roofs of different heights standing on the top. The hipped roof on the east side is nearly 20 meters high, with arched bay windows on it. Both the spire and the upper part of the bay window are decorated with relief ornaments. The hipped roof on the west side is about 25 meters high. On the south facade of the main building, there are three beautifully shaped and finely decorated gable roofs perpendicular to the main ridge, as well as four dormer windows. Interwoven with the two hipped roofs on the east and west sides, the whole structure looks like a gorgeous small palace. The decorative wooden components of the middle gable roof are clearly exposed, with white ash joints plastered between the components, which typically shows the Scandinavian rural architectural style. The exterior wall of the main building is inlaid with Taishan brick tiles, which is quite distinctive. The garden is located to the south of the main building. The ground around the garden is paved with colored flower bricks, and planted with rare flowers and trees such as Chinese juniper and cedar. There is a lawn in the middle with a bronze horse placed on it. To beautify the garden scenery and facilitate indoor flower appreciation, a flower viewing room is also set up in the garden. The room was originally equipped with heating equipment, with exquisite carvings inside and colored tiles paved on the ground. Although the appearance of the building is Nordic Norwegian style, many details of the decoration in the garden and inside the building have strong Chinese characteristics. At the gate, just like the traditional Chinese wealthy mansion, a pair of Chinese stone lions are placed. The tall walls around the garden are paved with refractory bricks, topped with yellow-green Chinese glazed tiles. Walking in the corridor, you can occasionally come across niches for Buddha statues, just like the Bodhisattva enshrined by fishermen on ships, which blesses the owner a smooth sailing.
