LongHua Si(龙华寺)

Longhua Temple, located in Xuhui District, Shanghai, is one of the oldest and largest Buddhist temples in the area. First built during the Three Kingdoms period (247 AD), it boasts a history of over 1,700 years and is often called 'the foremost ancient temple in Shanghai'. The iconic Longhua Pagoda, a seven-story octagonal brick structure from the Northern Song Dynasty, stands as the oldest surviving pagoda in the city. The temple complex features the Grand Hall, Hall of Heavenly Kings, and Jade Buddha Hall, housing a rich collection of Buddhist scriptures and artifacts. The annual Longhua Temple Fair (around the third lunar month) and the New Year's Eve bell-ringing ceremony draw large crowds. Visitors can enjoy authentic Buddhist vegetarian meals at the on-site dining hall. Please dress modestly and maintain a quiet demeanor to respect the religious atmosphere.
