Recently, a cinema in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, that offers afternoon naps has become a hit. Consumers can enjoy up to 2.5 hours of nap time in the cinema's VIP hall by subscribing to a "monthly nap package" for 39.9 yuan.

On August 24th at noon, a reporter from Jimu News visited the Lumiere Cinema in Xi'an and saw a promotional poster at the entrance for a monthly nap package called "Lying Flat Plan". Many office workers chose to rest here after lunch, and several newcomers also came specifically to sign up for a monthly pass after seeing the advertisement.

Posters displayed at the cinema indicate that the nap service is available from 12:00 to 14:30 on weekdays. A single monthly pass costs 39.9 yuan, and a double monthly pass costs 59.9 yuan. The cinema provides complimentary disinfecting blankets, drinks, and refreshing mints. Earplugs or eye masks are available for an additional fee. The cinema also reminds customers to follow the code of conduct, remain quiet, and pay attention to hygiene.

A staff member at the scene explained to reporters that there are currently two theaters offering nap services: a VIP lounge and a massage chair lounge, with a total of over 70 seats. Each customer has no assigned seat; it's a first-come, first-served basis. The lounge is more occupied, with most of its 30+ seats filled, while the massage chair lounge is less crowded because the "beds" are more spacious and comfortable. Sometimes, if a customer snores, the staff will remind them and suggest they move to the less crowded massage chair lounge to rest.

Mr. Guo, a 33-year-old office worker, has been using a "nap card" for four consecutive months. He said that he works nearby, and the experience of resting at his desk during lunch breaks was just so-so. More than four months ago, he saw an advertisement online for a movie theater near his company where he could take naps, so he bought a monthly pass and later renewed it for three more months. Now, he comes here to nap almost every workday.

Speaking of his nap experience, Mr. Guo said that the lounge is dimly lit, the seats can be fully reclined, and the environment is very clean, making it perfect for falling asleep. He always falls asleep instantly when he comes here and sleeps until almost 2 p.m. before going to work.

A reporter from Jimu News compared the lounge and the massage chair lounge and found that the lounge seats are usually for couples and are more spacious. The massage chair lounge seats can also be reclined, but the space is narrower and less comfortable, so fewer customers choose to go to the massage chair lounge.

The cinema staff member stated that as more customers come for afternoon naps, they may install partitions in the couples' seats in the lounge to ensure privacy for couples sharing a seat. Cleaning staff will also thoroughly clean the area after each nap.

Outside the lounge, Mr. Yang, who had just purchased a monthly pass today, praised his nap experience to the reporter. "I came here a couple of days ago after seeing the nap service, and the overall experience was great. It's perfect for falling asleep, and the price is reasonable. I'll definitely come back to nap on weekdays."

A cinema spokesperson stated that the "monthly nap subscription" service has actually been available since April 2025. Initially, it was designed to increase seat occupancy. Considering the lower number of moviegoers on weekdays at lunchtime and the higher demand from nearby office workers needing a nap, the service was introduced. Currently, the lounge is over half full, and new customers have been signing up in the past few days. However, there are currently no plans to expand the nap service to other screening rooms.
