Wukang Building is located at No. 1842-1858, Middle Huaihai Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai. It was first built in 1924, and many celebrities from cultural and performing arts circles once resided here. Wukang Building covers a land area of 1580 square meters, with a total floor area of 9275 square meters. The building is of reinforced concrete structure in general, with 8 floors and a total height of more than 30 meters, presenting a French Renaissance style appearance. Due to the limited geographical location, the ground floor of the building adopts arcade style, with storefront windows retracted inward to leave space for sidewalks. Besides, the facade of the first and second floors uses cement imitation stone wall to form the base style of the building. From the 3rd floor to the 7th floor, the facade is faced with yellowish brown bricks. The 8th floor on the top floor continues to use cement imitation stone wall, so the building presents three different sections. On the 3rd and 8th floors, the designer applies continuous long balconies as three-stage waist lines to strengthen the sense of layering. On the north side of the building, to solve the lighting problem of rooms, the designer specially reserved two large inward patios on the north-facing side.
