Two-day flash mob in Foshan | Chancheng night view connects with Shunde old town, a weekend getaway for special forces.

Using the Guangzhou-Foshan Metro Line as a hub, you can experience both the "old town heritage" of Foshan and the "taste of Shunde" in just two days. This route is entirely by "metro + walking," with Day 1 focusing on the city center of Chancheng and Day 2 heading straight to Daliang in Shunde, perfect for a quick weekend getaway.

Day 1: Ancestral Temple—Lingnan Tiandi—Kuaizi Road—Qiandeng Lake, all connected by a single subway line.

Exit from Exit D of the "Zumiao Station" on the Guangfo Line at 9:30 AM. First, take photos around the outside of the red walls; the morning light shining obliquely on the ceramic tile roofs produces better photos than at noon. Inside the Ancestral Temple, focus on three places: the wood carvings in the main hall, the Wong Fei-hung Memorial Hall, and the lion dance performance. The lion dance usually starts at 10:30 AM and ends at 2:30 PM; it's recommended to arrive 15 minutes early and secure a good spot on either side of the audience area to avoid crowding after the performance. After watching the lion dance, exit through the side gate and follow the path into the "Lingnan Tiandi" alleyway. The gable walls and old cobblestone streets are even better for taking photos than the main square.

For lunch, avoid the chain restaurants in the main square of Lingnan Tiandi and head to Liangyuan Road for small shops. Order Chencun rice noodles or Zhuhou chicken with double-skin milk. The Chencun rice noodles should be steamed fresh, and the Zhuhou chicken sauce is perfect for mixing with rice. Getting a seat before 12:30 pm will save you from waiting. In the afternoon, walk to Kuaizi Road, where the arcade shops retain the old Foshan flavor. Even locals line up for Huiji Dessert Shop's sesame paste and braised pig's feet with ginger; one serving is just right for two people.

In the evening, take the MTR from Zumiao Station to "Qiandeng Lake Station," and walk about ten minutes from Exit C to the middle section of the lake. The Qiandeng Lake light show after sunset cycles every half hour; the best spot for photos is on the wooden boardwalk on the west side of the island in the middle of the lake, away from the entrance plaza. For dinner, have congee or claypot rice nearby. For the congee, add seafood first, then meat, and finally vegetables. For the claypot rice, make sure it's crispy. Return to your accommodation before 10 PM.

Day 2: Shunde Daliang Qinghuiyuan – Huagai Road – Jinbang Street (eat first, then walk)

Take Foshan Metro Line 3 to "Daliang Bell Tower Station" at 8:00 AM, then walk eight minutes to Qinghui Garden. Qinghui Garden is best visited early in the morning to photograph the "borrowed scenery through the latticed windows," as the first hour after the park opens has the fewest visitors. The key attractions are the Boat Hall, Bixi Thatched Cottage, and Chengyi Pavilion. Use side-backlighting to photograph the rockery and latticed windows, as they are prone to overexposure at midday, so schedule your visit for the morning.

Exiting Qinghui Garden's north gate leads directly into Huagai Road Pedestrian Street. The main street has a strong commercial feel, while traditional flavors are hidden in the alleys on both sides. For double-skin milk pudding, you can choose the original flavor from Renxin or Minxin. If the queue exceeds twenty people, head to "Jinbang Shangjie." Jinbang Shangjie is a front shop and back workshop for water buffalo milk, where you can sample milk slices, water buffalo milk, fish skin, and fried milk. For lunch, find a Shunde-style raw fish restaurant with an open kitchen. Fish is sliced to order and served with salt and pepper, perfect for two people to share. Taste the raw fish first, then add lemongrass, crushed peanuts, and soy sauce.

If you have the energy in the afternoon, you can ride a shared bike to Shunfeng Mountain Park and circle half of the lake to take photos of Qingyun Pagoda and the lake in the same frame; if you want to slow down, find a dessert shop with a courtyard and sit until 2:30 pm. For the return trip, take Metro Line 3 again. After 3 pm, the flow of people at the entrance of Daliang Bell Tower Station increases, so it is recommended to enter the station 20 minutes in advance.

Transportation Saving Card

The Guangzhou-Foshan Metro is connected to the Guangzhou Metro network. Activating the "Lingnan Pass·Guangfo Pass" electronic card in advance will grant you transfer discounts and save time compared to purchasing a single ticket. For cross-district travel, the metro is the priority. In the old city area, use shared bicycles. Parking is tight around Qiandeng Lake and Qinghui Garden, so taking a taxi for short-distance transfers is not recommended. For two people traveling together, consider a metro day pass, but it can only be used on the metro.

Packing list

Bring only a 20-liter backpack: old sneakers, sun hat, power bank, folding umbrella, empty water bottle, and a light jacket. The stone slabs of the arcade can be slippery in the rain, so don't worry about wearing old shoes; taking photos at Qiandeng Lake and Qinghui Garden will drain your battery quickly, so bring a high-capacity power bank with a short cable; the light jacket will protect you from the air conditioning in the subway and the night breeze by the lake; and the empty water bottle can be used to fill with drinking water at the Ancestral Temple and Qinghui Garden.

Avoiding pitfalls while queuing

For the Ancestral Temple Lion Dance, choose the morning session on weekdays and arrive 20 minutes early to secure a seat; for the popular restaurants in Lingnan Tiandi, be seated before 11:30 AM; for Qinghui Garden, enter within one hour of opening to avoid the long queues after 10 AM on weekends; for the intimidating queues at Huagai Road's double-skin milk shop, consider changing your visit before 11 AM or after 3 PM, or go directly to Jinbang Street; for the Qiandeng Lake light show, the wooden boardwalk in the middle section offers good photo spots, so avoid crowding the entrance; for Shunde raw fish, choose a restaurant with an open kitchen and confirm that the fish has been freshly killed while waiting for your meal.
