A list of accommodation pitfalls to avoid in Liuzhou's transportation hubs | Personally tested within 2 kilometers of high-speed rail stations, airports, passenger terminals, and transfer stations (es

Having taken three overnight high-speed train layovers and one early morning flight from Bailian Airport in Liuzhou, and even been chased to the curb by a tout at the bus station, I've pretty much covered all the accommodation pitfalls in this city's transportation hubs. Liuzhou, as a hub for railway and highway transfers in Guangxi, attracts many people not for tourism, but for transit, catching trains, or flights. This article won't discuss trendy river-view rooms; instead, it will clearly outline the cost-effective accommodation areas within 2 kilometers of the high-speed rail station, airport, bus station, and public transport interchange, including walking and taxi times, first and last bus times, and tips for avoiding common pitfalls.

High-speed rail station: From Feie Road, east of Liuzhou Station, to Liunan Wanda, the most restful sleep is during the overnight transfer.

Liuzhou Railway Station is a major station with both regular and high-speed trains, and many bullet trains are still arriving and departing before midnight. Based on my personal experience, the most convenient area isn't around the station square, but rather about 1.2 to 2 kilometers east of the station, along Feie Road to the vicinity of Liunan Wanda Plaza. During the day, it's a 10 to 15-minute walk; at night, if you're dragging luggage, I recommend taking a taxi, which will cost just over the starting fare.

First and last bus reference: At the Liuzhou Railway Station East Square bus hub, the last bus for most routes departs between 22:00 and 23:00, while the BRT express line stops running around 22:30; buses begin departing around 6:00 AM. If you live in this area, you can easily catch a high-speed train before 7:00 AM, and there's generally no traffic congestion when taking a taxi in the morning.

Suitable for: People arriving by high-speed rail in the early morning, those who only have a few hours of sleep before transferring, and those who need to catch the first bullet train the next morning. Tips to avoid: Don't be tempted by cheap accommodations in low-rise, older buildings right next to the tracks on the south side. The vibrations from the tracks and the nighttime announcements are clearer than you might imagine. Always choose a higher floor with your back to the tracks. Also, avoid "family-run guesthouses" actively soliciting customers in the station square; safety and soundproofing are not guaranteed.

Airport: Overnight guesthouses along Bailian Airport Road, so you don't have to rush from the city center in the middle of the night for early morning flights.

Liuzhou Bailian Airport is quite far from the city center, and passengers taking early morning flights are most worried about not being able to get a taxi. Last time I caught a flight around 7 a.m., I stayed the night before in a cluster of guesthouses located on the airport road, about a 10 to 15 minute walk north from the terminal exit. Most of the guesthouses were willing to provide free or affordable pick-up and drop-off services, and it only took about 5 minutes by taxi.

First and last bus reference: Airport shuttle buses to the city center generally end with the last flight of the day, around 22:00 to 23:00; daytime bus services are infrequent, so they are not recommended as the first choice for connecting to early morning flights. Therefore, staying near the airport is more for sleeping time than for taking public transportation.

Suitable for: People catching early morning or late-night flights from Bailian Airport who don't want the hassle of getting into the city. Tips to avoid: Nighttime lighting in this area is generally poor; women traveling alone should have the hotel pick them up from the terminal rather than dragging their luggage through the night; make sure to confirm if there is a wake-up call service and airport drop-off; soundproofing in the surrounding rooms is generally poor, so bringing your own earplugs will provide better sound insulation.

Passenger Transport Center: Located next to the main bus station, on Yufeng Road to Jiahe Road, with convenient connections to county and township buses.

The main bus station is the hub for buses departing from Liuzhou to Rongshui, Rongan, Sanjiang, Luzhai, and other counties and townships, with many buses departing as early as the morning. It is recommended to stay north of the main bus station, at the foot of Yufeng Mountain to Jiahe Road, a distance of approximately 1.2 to 1.8 kilometers. It's a 10 to 15-minute walk to the main station and about a 10-minute taxi ride to the South Bus Station.

First and last bus reference: The first bus in this area departs around 6:30 AM and the last bus around 10:00 PM, which is sufficient for connecting morning and evening buses. Eating is also convenient here; there are local restaurants serving snail rice noodles and stews downstairs, so you can grab a hot meal when you arrive at the station at night.

Suitable for: People taking overnight buses to Liuzhou and then transferring to county or township buses the next morning, or those coming from county towns to Liuzhou to transfer to the high-speed rail. Tips to avoid: Refuse to try and book accommodations from motorcycle taxis or touts outside the bus station. Reputable hotels are concentrated along both sides of Yufeng Road. Some older hotels do not have elevators; if you have large luggage, choose mid-range chain hotels with elevators or newly renovated guesthouses on higher floors.

Key transfer station: Longcheng Road to Guangchang Road bus transfer area, a flexible solution for cities without subway access.

Liuzhou currently does not have a subway. For major transfers in the city center, the main routes are the intersection of BRT and regular bus lines along Guangchang Road, Longcheng Road, and Bayi Road. It is recommended to stay within 1.5 kilometers of the Wuxing Pedestrian Street, such as near Binjiang East Road or Bayi Road. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the transfer station, and about a 15-minute taxi ride to Liuzhou Railway Station.

Reference for first and last bus times: BRT lines such as Express 1 and Express 2 have their last buses around 22:30 to 23:00, and the first buses around 6:00 to 6:30. It's convenient to get to the Industrial Museum, Yaobu Ancient Town, and Ma'anshan from here, without having to repeatedly go back and forth to Liuzhou Station.

Suitable for: People who plan to visit city attractions during the day or transfer early in the morning to go to Rong'an Sanjiang. Tips to avoid: Don't stay in a guesthouse located right in the center of the five-star pedestrian street; the late-night food stalls and electric scooter alarms will drive any light sleeper crazy. Choose a room on a higher floor facing the inner part of the complex; it will be much quieter.

Blogger's Summary and Practical Tips

Accommodation in Liuzhou's transportation hubs essentially boils down to a choice between "proximity" and "quietness." Prioritize catching trains and flights near high-speed rail stations and airports, while bus stations and public transport interchanges prioritize connections and dining. If arriving late at night, avoid following touts in front of the station; booking a room with an elevator and a cancellation option in advance is the most convenient option.

Practical Tips: First, if you arrive by high-speed rail at night, choose Feie Road on the east side of Liuzhou Station, which leads to Liunan Wanda Plaza. It's convenient for walking and taking a taxi. Second, if you have an early morning flight from Bailian Airport, stay along Airport Road and arrange airport transfer in advance. Third, if you are transferring at the bus station, don't stay in a nameless hotel in front of the station. It's more reliable to walk towards Yufeng Road. Fourth, if there is no subway transfer, stay outside Wuxing Pedestrian Street. Don't stay directly above the night market.
