The Bund International Architecture Exhibition Cluster is located on the west bank of the Huangpu River, stretching from Waibaidu Bridge in the north to Jinling East Road in the south. Along the roughly 1800-meter street, 52 historical buildings of diverse styles with strong exotic features are arranged in a row, making it one of the top highlights of the Bund, where you can catch a glimpse of the century-old historical changes of Shanghai. Since Shanghai was opened as a commercial port in the 1840s, the Bund has become the political, financial, commercial and cultural hub of the imperialist powers in Shanghai, with foreign banks, trading firms and clubs gathering here. Wandering along Zhongshan East 1st Road, you will see various historical buildings of different styles including the Customs House, the South and North Buildings of Peace Hotel, the former HSBC Building, the Asiatic Building, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and the Union Building. You can fully appreciate the Gothic spires, Baroque colonnades, Spanish-style balconies and ancient Greek-style domes, as if you have traveled back to an exotic street from the last century. At night, the area is brightly lit and even more delightful to visit. Most of the buildings have now been converted into commercial office buildings including the headquarters of China Pacific Insurance, the Consulate General of Thailand in Shanghai, the Shanghai headquarters of China Merchants Group, the headquarters of Pudong Development Bank, Shanghai Customs, Shanghai General Trade Union and Shanghai Foreign Exchange Trade Center, which are not open to the public. Some buildings have become consumption centers, for example, the world-renowned Bund 18 which used to be the former headquarters of British Standard Chartered Bank in China. Its first and second floors host flagship stores of many world-famous brands such as Cartier, while the upper floors are home to the "Bund 18 Creative Center", Cantonese restaurant "Tan Wai Lou", Michelin 3-star chef restaurant and open-air river-view bar, making it a must-visit spot to enjoy Shanghai's nightlife.
