Recently, some museum exhibitions have contained textual errors and inappropriate descriptions, drawing widespread public attention. On the 19th, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage issued a notice to comprehensively strengthen the review of museum exhibition content. The notice requires all provincial-level cultural heritage administrative departments to act swiftly and immediately organize special inspections and rectifications of museum exhibition content within their jurisdictions, adhering to the principle of immediate rectification upon discovery to ensure that all problems are dynamically resolved.

According to the notice, the scope of the inspection includes: the basic displays, permanent exhibitions, and temporary exhibitions of all registered museums within the jurisdiction, as well as various guide signs, notices, announcements, reminders, and other public service information. The inspection will focus on: the establishment and implementation of the museum's exhibition content review system; whether there are issues such as illogical wording, misspellings, punctuation errors, or inaccurate use of text in exhibitions; whether there are discrepancies in basic exhibit information, inaccurate dating, or incorrect data and chart references; whether the drawing, labeling, and legends of maps, historical maps, and regional maps are standardized; and whether there are inaccurate or inappropriate descriptions or guidance regarding major historical events, revolutionary movements, famous figures, or content involving ethnicity, religion, or border regions.

The notice emphasizes that all museums should carefully review the content of exhibitions held within their own premises or in their name, strictly implement the responsibility system for ideological work, clearly define the responsible parties for each stage of the exhibition process, and ensure that responsibility is assigned to specific individuals. Exhibition managers should regularly inspect the exhibition halls and immediately rectify any issues found in the exhibition content. If an exhibition manager verifies that the content is indeed incorrect, they should complete the corrections and provide feedback on the same day.

Furthermore, as the responsible entity for reviewing the content of exhibitions, museums must conduct their own reviews of the content and must not outsource the review to third parties, nor may they delegate or transfer the review responsibility.

The notice also stipulates that cultural heritage administrative departments at all levels should strengthen the registration management and supervision of museum exhibitions, establish and improve a regular inspection and supervision mechanism, and comprehensively strengthen the standardized management of museum exhibitions.
