Since the start of the summer vacation, cross-border cultural tourism, parent-child study tours, and commuting between Zhuhai and Macao in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have continued to surge, resulting in consistently high passenger volumes at Zhuhai's various ports. As a core gateway connecting the mainland to Macao, the Gongbei Port has maintained a consistently high level of passenger traffic. The Gongbei Border Inspection Station announced on March 31 that, as of that day, it had processed nearly 22 million inbound and outbound passengers during the summer vacation, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%.

This summer, influenced by multiple factors such as the cultural and tourism linkage between Zhuhai and Macao, summer study tours, short-distance cross-border tours, and the normalization of commuting between the two places, the passenger flow at Gongbei Port showed significant characteristics of "large total volume, high peak, concentrated time period, and diversified business formats".

According to statistics from the Gongbei Border Inspection Station, during the summer vacation, the station inspected an average of nearly 355,000 inbound and outbound passengers per day. The peak passenger flow was concentrated on weekends and during the morning and evening rush hours each day. In early August, the daily two-way passenger flow exceeded 430,000 on a single weekend.

In terms of passenger flow structure, the proportion of cross-border tourism, family travel, and study tours has increased significantly. Among them, nearly 2.8 million people traveled between Zhuhai and Macao with tourist visas, an increase of nearly 15% year-on-year. The public's enthusiasm for cross-border travel continues to rise, fully demonstrating the strong vitality of cultural and tourism integration between Zhuhai and Macao and the vigorous momentum of cross-border exchanges in the Greater Bay Area.

Furthermore, with the continued release of favorable entry and exit policies this year, escaping the summer heat in China has become a popular option for foreign tourists, especially those from European countries. Statistics show that during the summer vacation, the Gongbei Border Inspection Station processed nearly 140,000 foreign travelers, an increase of nearly 10% year-on-year.

"Passenger traffic at the port has continued to grow this summer, especially since August, with a significant increase in the number of cross-border tourists. We have comprehensively improved the port's clearance capacity through dynamic duty allocation, technology-enabled inspection, and refined convenient measures to ensure efficient and smooth passage for all types of passengers," said He Shujuan, deputy director of the Border Inspection Department of Gongbei Border Inspection Station. She added that the station will continue to closely monitor passenger flow changes as the summer peak season transitions into the "back-to-school season," further improving the convenience for cross-border students and their parents. With tangible clearance convenience, the station aims to safeguard cross-border travel for people from both places and contribute to the continued prosperity of Zhuhai and Macao.

In addition, according to the Jiuzhou Border Inspection Station, since the start of the 2026 summer travel season, the Jiuzhou Port has processed over 73,000 inbound and outbound passengers and nearly 1,000 inbound and outbound vessels. Among them, over 50,000 were mainland tourists traveling to Hong Kong and Macau, an increase of approximately 75% compared to before the summer season. (Source: China News Network)
