Today and tomorrow (August 21-22), the tropical depression will linger in the Beibu Gulf and gradually strengthen into a tropical storm. Under its combined influence with the southwest monsoon, some areas along the coast from South China to East China will experience heavy rain or torrential rain. Regarding temperatures, widespread heatwaves will persist in central and eastern China, but cold air may arrive in northern China next week to bring relief.

Tropical systems are active at sea, bringing heavy rain or torrential rain to parts of South China.

Under the influence of a tropical depression and a tropical disturbance in the waters east of Taiwan, short-term heavy rainfall occurred in East and South China yesterday. Monitoring showed that some areas in central and western Hainan, central Guangxi, western and northern Yunnan, eastern Fujian, eastern Zhejiang, and southern and northern Taiwan experienced heavy to torrential rain, with some areas experiencing extremely heavy rain.

In the future, the tropical depression will linger in the Beibu Gulf and gradually intensify into a tropical storm. Simultaneously, a tropical disturbance will develop east of Taiwan. These two systems, combined with the subtropical high, will continuously transport moisture over land, leading to frequent rainfall and severe convection in many parts of central and eastern China. Under the combined influence of these tropical systems and the southwest monsoon, heavy rainfall today and tomorrow will mainly be concentrated along the coast from South China to East China, with some areas experiencing torrential rain or even extremely heavy rain.

Specifically, today, parts of southern Guangxi, southern and eastern Guangdong, western Hainan Island, eastern and southern Fujian, southern Jiangxi, most of Taiwan Island, central and eastern Zhejiang, northeastern Jiangsu, Shandong Peninsula, western Hubei, northern Chongqing, southern Sichuan Basin, southern Yunnan, southwestern Qinghai, central and eastern Inner Mongolia, and central Heilongjiang will experience heavy to torrential rain, with some areas in western Hainan Island, southern Guangxi, and southern Taiwan Island experiencing extremely heavy rain.

Tomorrow, parts of eastern Inner Mongolia, western Heilongjiang, western Jilin, Liaodong Peninsula, Shandong Peninsula, northeastern Jiangsu, eastern Fujian, most of Taiwan Island, southeastern Guangdong, southern Guangxi, western Hainan Island, eastern Qinghai, central Gansu, southern Sichuan Basin, central and southern Yunnan, and southeastern Tibet will experience heavy to torrential rain, with some areas in southwestern Guangxi and southern Taiwan Island experiencing extremely heavy rain.

The day after tomorrow, heavy to torrential rain is expected in parts of northern Heilongjiang, southeastern Jilin, eastern Liaoning, southern Ningxia, southern Shandong Peninsula, southern Fujian, most of Taiwan Island, eastern and southern Guangdong, southern Guangxi, northern and western Hainan Island, and western and southern Yunnan. Some areas in northern Hainan Island and southern Taiwan Island will experience extremely heavy rain.

Meteorological experts warn that some areas in South China and coastal areas of East China have recently experienced heavy cumulative rainfall. The public should be alert to the potential for secondary disasters such as flash floods, mudslides, and landslides caused by localized heavy rainfall. They should pay close attention to the latest forecasts and warnings and avoid traveling to mountainous areas, river valleys, and low-lying areas.

The heatwave continues in central and eastern China; northern China may see a cooling trend next week.

Yesterday, the heatwave continued in central and eastern China, with high temperatures concentrated in Xinjiang, Hunan, Guangxi, Jiangxi and other places. Temperatures in many areas reached 36°C, and with the high humidity, the perceived temperature was around 40°C.

For the next three days, the subtropical high will retreat briefly eastward before strengthening and extending westward again. The Huanghuai, Jianghuai, Jianghan, Jiangnan, and northern South China regions will remain the core areas of high temperatures and humidity. Not only will it be hot during the day, but the minimum temperature at night will also mostly exceed 25°C, with the heat continuing day and night.

As for other parts of central and eastern China, due to high humidity, even if the temperature does not reach the 35°C high-temperature threshold, it still feels very muggy. This is not only true in the south, but also in the northeast. In Shenyang, for example, the high temperatures today and tomorrow will both be above 30°C, which is higher than the average for this time of year.

After the 24th, the cold trough and cold vortex systems will continue to move eastward, guiding cold air eastward and southward, bringing a cooling process to northern China. This cooling trend may accelerate the arrival of autumn. However, this is still some time away, and continued monitoring is necessary. (Source: China Weather Network)
