Shanghai Nature Wild Insect Museum (Oriental Pearl Reptile & Insect Exploration Center) sits in Lujiazui, Pudong, west of the Oriental Pearl Tower. You can view various live insects, insect specimens including rare odd-looking species, plus amphibious reptiles like lizards, frogs and turtles, which is a great eye-opener for kids. The 2-floor venue takes about 2 hours for a slow family tour, note it’s a bit stuffy indoors in summer. The upper floor has a fish feeding zone for koi, plus Yangtze alligators, snakes, cute mini marmosets, live arthropods like spiders, scorpions, stick insects, beetles and crawlers. The lower floor displays reptiles, rich butterfly specimens, plus small animals like chinchillas, rabbits, goats, owls and bats that you can feed and touch. Interesting small animal knowledge sessions with kid interactions are held at 11:00,14:30 on weekends, and 11:00,13:30,15:00 on Golden Week/holidays at the small animal zone.
