Spot Introduction

Shanghai Old Street, formerly known as Fangbang Middle Road, showcases the historical and cultural evolution of old Shanghai from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the period when Western culture poured in through its architectural styles and business layout extending from west to east. The commercial operations of the whole street are dominated by traditional featured industries, highlighting traditional folk culture and creating a distinctive Shanghai-style cultural atmosphere. Shanghai Old Street is divided into east and west sections bounded by Guanyi Street. The east section has been decorated and renovated to retain the residential characteristics of the late Qing Dynasty. Lattice windows, shutter doors, Fan-style railings, floor swing doors and other facilities have been restored on both sides of the old street, complemented by upturned eaves, decorative roof gutters and horse-head gables on the roofs. The facades of the buildings in the west section imitate the architecture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, highlighting the folk customs of Shanghai's old town. Shanghai Old Street gathers century-old stores including Tong Hanchun, Lao Tongsheng, Wu Liangcai, Wan Youquan, Qiu Tianbao, Old Shanghai Teahouse, Deshun Restaurant, Chunfeng Deyi Lou (Yuyuan Bazaar Branch), Xishi Tofu Shop, Ding Niangzi Cloth Shop, Rongshun Restaurant, Boyin Hall, etc., and also opens traditional featured stores such as Danfeng Teahouse and Hall of Renowned Doctors. Together with the "Star Street" on its north side, it presents you a vivid "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" that shows the full picture of old Shanghai's various commercial trades and folk life.
