Spot Introduction

Formerly known as Hongkou Park, Lu Xun Park was once a frequent place for Mr. Lu Xun to take walks. On the eve of the 20th anniversary of Lu Xun's death in 1956, Lu Xun's Tomb was built in the park. After completion, Lu Xun's coffin was solemnly relocated here from the International Cemetery in the western suburbs. There is a seated statue of Lu Xun on the lawn in front of the tomb, with a serene face and deep, vivid eyes. The inscription on the tombstone reads: "Tomb of Mr. Lu Xun". The base sarcophagus holding Lu Xun's remains under the tombstone is paved with smooth granite. In addition, the park is equipped with commemorative attractions such as Lu Xun Memorial Pavilion and Lu Xun Memorial Hall, as well as natural scenic spots including Cherry Blossom Garden, Plum Blossom Pavilion and Plum Blossom Garden. Integrating commemoration, cultural entertainment and sightseeing, it has also become an important venue for nearby elders and children to do sports, relax and go for spring outings. Plum blossoms are mainly planted in the Plum Blossom Garden of Lu Xun Park and the green space near Exit 1 of Metro Line 8, with main varieties including Gongfen, Meiren plum and Green Calyx plum. Starting from February every year, nearly a hundred plum trees in the park bloom one after another, adding a bright touch to the Lunar New Year celebration. Nearly 1000 Somei Yoshino cherry trees are planted in the park, with the flowering period in mid-to-late March. The flowers bloom before leaves sprout, each with 5 petals. They are light red at the beginning and gradually turn white, featuring a large number of blooms and extremely high ornamental value. Today, after new renovations, Lu Xun Park has restored the style of a "British-style park", and a new "Lake Center Island" has been developed. The well-known landscape in the park, Shanghai's first sand-filtered drinking water fountain built in 1929, is also open to visitors.
