Spot Introduction

The City God Temple Tourist Area is home to two major attractions, Yu Garden and Shanghai City God Temple, which is a must-see destination for first-time visitors to Shanghai. Here you can experience the local folk customs of Shanghai, and taste authentic Shanghai snacks and Shanghainese local cuisine. When night falls, the colorful landscape lights on the antique building complex also turn this area into a beautiful scenic spot. Located in the old town in the eastern part of Huangpu District in the city center, the City God Temple Tourist Area is a large zone that integrates sightseeing, shopping and catering. Apart from the two major paid attractions of Yu Garden and Shanghai City God Temple, there are also open small scenic spots such as Yu Garden Nine-turn Bridge and Mid-Lake Pavilion. The Nanxiang steamed buns here are not to be missed, and you can also sit in Lvbolang (Yu Garden Branch), tasting Shanghainese local dishes while watching the crowds coming and going downstairs. The City God Temple Tourist Area is packed with people all year round, as it is also a famous commercial district. There are several small commodity wholesale malls and comprehensive shopping centers, a great number of gold and jewelry shops, as well as numerous time-honored catering restaurants, where you can also buy all kinds of Shanghai local specialties.
