A leisurely stroll through tea fields and valleys | A 7-day, 6-night family-friendly and senior-friendly itinerary in Hangzhou

A leisurely and in-depth tour of Hangzhou can begin by avoiding the crowds in the core area of West Lake. Staying in the Qingzhiwu or Longjing area on the western shore of West Lake, and using tea fields, valleys, and wetlands as your daily route, allows you to visit only 2-3 key locations each day for 7 days and 6 nights. This is more suitable for families with elderly members, children, or those looking for a long vacation to truly relax.

Day 1: After arriving, first visit Yanggong Causeway and Maojiabu.

After checking in in the afternoon, there's no need to rush to the Broken Bridge. Instead, head directly to the "Maojiabu-Quyuanfenghe" area from the north side of Yanggong Causeway. The lakeside walkway here almost hugs the water's surface; the wooden boardwalk is gentle and without steps, stretching for about two kilometers. Rowboats at Maojiabu often glide slowly through the reeds, making it comfortable for seniors to take photos without crowding, and allowing children to observe small fish from the stone-paved banks. In the evening, walk to the bridge on Yanggong Causeway to watch the sunset over the lake—a more tranquil view than from Leifeng Pagoda.

Day 2: Dedicate the day to Jiuxi and Longjing.

Entering from the Jiuxi entrance, the path is a flat, gentle cement slope, leading to the "Jiuxi Yanshu" pond in about 40 minutes. Continuing towards Longjing Village, the stream overflows the path, making it suitable for wading in sandals during the summer. There are no steep steps, making it ideal for the elderly to walk slowly and for children to play in the water. After lunch, rest in Longjing Village. In the afternoon, visit the Longjing section of the China National Tea Museum, where the indoor exhibits offer shelter from the rain and provide insights into the Longjing tea-making process.

Day 3-Day 4: Choose one of the following nearby suburbs: Tangqi Ancient Town or Tianmu Mountain Nature Reserve

From the third day onwards, the itinerary splits into two routes. Route A: Tangqi Ancient Town: Day 3. In the morning, take a bus to Tangqi and stroll leisurely between Guangji Bridge and Shuibei Street. There are many stone benches along the canal, suitable for elders to sit and rest. Enjoy local pastries and loquats for lunch. In the afternoon, visit Chaoshan Scenic Area and walk along the gentle slope at the foot of the mountain; it's very comfortable even without climbing to the top. Day 4. In the morning, walk along the flat boardwalk at Dingshan Lake Wetland or find a teahouse to relax by the Grand Canal. Return to the city in the afternoon.

Route B: Lin'an Tianmu Mountain Nature Reserve: Day 3. In the morning, head to Lin'an Tianmu Mountain. After checking into a hotel at the foot of the mountain, hike the gentle slope of the ancient path next to Chanyuan Temple in the afternoon. Only walk to the entrance of the Big Tree King Scenic Area before turning back, which takes about an hour and a half. Day 4. In the morning, walk along the mountain stream trail to see the Chinese fir and bamboo forests. The path is wet but not difficult to walk. Do not climb to the summit to conserve energy. Both routes emphasize "staying overnight and breathing slowly" to avoid continuous hiking.

Day 5 Xixi Wetland: Only visit Fu Causeway and waterway

Xixi Wetland is vast, so exploring only half of it in a day is more relaxed. From the Zhoujiacun entrance, take a rowboat to Shentankou. After disembarking, walk along Fu Causeway to the Slow Life Street area. Fu Causeway is a straight asphalt road with no steps, making it convenient for strollers or wheelchairs. In the afternoon, enjoy tea and birdwatching at a waterside teahouse. No other attractions are planned to avoid crowds in the deeper parts of the wetland.

Day 6: Walking on flat ground at Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park

The roads inside the Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park are flat, and sightseeing buses connect various stops, so the elderly and children don't need to walk the entire route. In the morning, visit the South City Wall ruins and the Mojiaoshan Palace area. In the afternoon, take a stroll around the Liangzhu Cultural and Art Center, and then walk to the vicinity of Yu Niao Ji for a light meal. There are no steep slopes throughout, but advance reservations are required on the official platform.

Day 7: Closing the day along the canal, Qiaoxi Historic District.

The final day is dedicated to the Grand Canal. Enter the Qiaoxi Historical District from the east side of Gongchen Bridge, and stroll along the riverside greenway. You can visit the Living Handicraft Museum or the China Knife, Scissors and Sword Museum, which are likely to interest children. Have lunch by the canal before returning, concluding the seven-day slow-paced trip.

Recommended gentle slope routes suitable for the elderly and children

The top recommended spots are "Jiuxi Shibajian - Longjing Village," which features gentle slopes and a smooth surface, perfect for children to play in the water; "Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park" offers sightseeing buses and a level road, ideal for strollers; "Xixi Wetland Fudi" is straight with no steps, perfect for a leisurely walk; "Maojiabu Waterfront Boardwalk" and "Grand Canal Greenway" also have no significant elevation changes. In case of rain, simply switch to indoor spaces such as the China National Tea Museum, Liangzhu Cultural and Art Center, or the Knife, Scissors and Sword Museum.

List of frequently used local apps

Before traveling, you can use the "Hangzhou Public Transportation App" or the Hangzhou Bus QR code in Alipay; choose Gaode Map or Baidu Map for navigation; check restaurants on Dianping or Meituan; book tickets using the "West Lake Scenic Area Official Mini Program", "Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park Mini Program", and "Xixi Wetland Mini Program". Some venues require reservations 1-3 days in advance.

Clothing suggestions for rainy and dry seasons

The plum rain season in Hangzhou generally lasts from mid-June to early July. Typhoons typically affect the city from August to September. During this time, it is recommended to wear quick-drying fabrics, bring waterproof shoes and a folding umbrella, and carry a light long-sleeved shirt in case of air conditioning indoors. Autumn and winter are dry seasons with little rain and low humidity, but there are large temperature differences between day and night. From November to March of the following year, it is necessary to bring fleece or a light down jacket. During the day, you can wear a long-sleeved T-shirt and a jacket. In late spring and early summer, pay attention to sun protection and hydration.
