According to a BBC report on the 9th, a malfunction in the UK's flight management system on the 8th has resulted in the cancellation of over 2,000 flights. The UK Civil Aviation Authority stated that affected passengers may not be entitled to compensation.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement on the 9th, saying that the disruption to flight operations caused by this malfunction may be considered a "special circumstance" under the passenger rights regulations, and therefore affected passengers may not be eligible for compensation.

British Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said on the 9th that the malfunction had caused hundreds of thousands of passengers to face flight cancellations, rerouting, and delays, but she "did not believe it was inevitable." She has called for an independent investigation into the cause of the incident.

The UK's National Air Traffic Management Corporation (NAM) attributed the incident to a technical glitch. NAM Chief Executive Martin Rolf said, "We have ruled out the possibility of a cyberattack."

A major malfunction occurred in the UK's flight management system on the afternoon of August 8, causing numerous flight cancellations and delays at airports across the country.
