Ministry of Transport: Plans to build approximately 60,000 kilometers of high-quality self-driving tourism highways
China plans to build a "three-ring, four-horizontal, five-vertical" high-quality self-driving tourism highway network with a total length of approximately 60,000 kilometers.
On the 17th, the Ministry of Transport released relevant content of the "Implementation Plan for High-Quality Self-Driving Tourism Highways" (hereinafter referred to as the "Implementation Plan"). The Implementation Plan proposes that the high-quality self-driving tourism highways promoted by the Ministry of Transport will be based on ordinary national highways, and will follow the principle of "maintaining a stable overall framework, expanding branch lines in important areas, and diversifying routes in some sections." By effectively connecting important resources such as national cultural parks, core tourism resources, distinctive landscapes, and cultural customs, a main framework of high-quality self-driving tourism highways with a total length of approximately 60,000 kilometers will be formed, consisting of "three rings, four horizontal lines, and five vertical lines."
Among them, the "three rings" are the coastal ring road, the capital metropolitan area ring road, and the Qinghai-Gansu ring road, which are three high-quality self-driving tourism highways; the "four horizontal" roads are the Great Wall culture, the Yellow River culture, the Yangtze River culture, and the western snow-covered sky road, which are four high-quality self-driving tourism highways; and the "five vertical" roads are the Grand Canal culture, the East China World Heritage, the Central Beautiful Mountains, the Long March culture, and the Ancient Road Secret Realm, which are five high-quality self-driving tourism highways.
The implementation plan clarifies that by 2030, the cross-regional, long-distance, high-quality self-driving tourism highway routes coordinated and promoted by the Ministry of Transport will be basically formed, with a road quality rate higher than the average, supporting facilities gradually improved, and key sections becoming well-known self-driving destinations, initially achieving networked, systematic, and branded development. By 2035, a "1+N" high-quality self-driving tourism highway system will be fully formed, with continuously improved facilities and services, strong intelligent safety guarantees, rich and diverse consumption scenarios, and a more significant supporting role in expanding domestic demand, promoting consumption, and benefiting people's livelihoods.
