On the 17th, Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, launched a five-year tourism development plan. Based on the concepts of clean, smart, and green tourism, the plan aims to enhance the city's tourism appeal through a series of measures, including developing new tourism products and promoting nighttime tourism. The goal is to transform Phnom Penh into an internationally competitive tourist destination by 2030.

Cambodian Minister of Tourism Ho Hath and Phnom Penh Mayor Khun Sreng jointly attended the launch ceremony of the "Phnom Penh Tourism Development Plan 2026-2030" held that day. The Ministry of Tourism stated that the plan is not only a strategic guiding document, but also a common roadmap and practical action framework, aiming to mobilize all relevant stakeholders to jointly promote the sustainable and high-quality development of Phnom Penh's tourism industry.

According to official statistics, more than 930,000 international tourists visited Phnom Penh from January to June this year, accounting for more than half of the total number of foreign tourists entering Cambodia during the same period.

Kun Sheng said that the city plans to transform the riverbank along the already established and influential Sibiwan Pedestrian Street into a modern, green, and environmentally friendly tourist area. At the same time, it will develop more new tourism products, including building public leisure parks and public electric bicycle lanes that are qualified to host various large-scale domestic and international cultural, sports, and tourism events, and further improve the convenience of transportation for citizens and tourists.

Huha stated that Phnom Penh is Cambodia's political, economic, commercial, and cultural center, as well as an important international tourism gateway. Tourism development should focus on three main directions: building tourism brands to enhance Phnom Penh's international reputation; strengthening the storytelling aspect of tourism promotion, integrating historical, cultural, and everyday life elements into tourism products; and expanding nighttime tourism to boost consumption.

He also pointed out that against the backdrop of increasingly fierce regional tourism competition and rapidly changing international tourist demands, Cambodia must continuously develop new products, strive to improve service quality and the attractiveness of its tourist destinations, and strengthen tourist safety guarantees to ensure that major tourist destinations throughout Cambodia, including Phnom Penh, maintain their leading position in regional and even global tourism competition.
