According to reports, hotel bookings in Beijing increased by 85% year-on-year during the summer vacation.
On August 28, Fliggy released its "2026 Summer Travel Report," showing that summer travel bookings hit a new high, with domestic hotel room nights increasing by 66% year-on-year and domestic ticket sales increasing by nearly 30% year-on-year. Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Guangzhou were among the most popular domestic travel destinations.
Looking at the Beijing market, travel bookings for Beijing destinations on Fliggy this summer surpassed the same period last year, with hotel bookings increasing by 85% year-on-year. As a popular source and destination city for summer travelers, Beijing continues to see strong demand for hotel, ticket, and local entertainment bookings.
Judging from the trends, this summer unfolded along two main themes: classic experiences and novelties. Summer retreats, cultural and museum tours, night tours, and "sky and sea" tours remained popular. The rise in popularity of activities like visiting farmers' markets and cooking, enjoying coffee by rice paddies, stargazing and firefly watching, and using AI to handle miscellaneous tasks reflected the continued growing demand among young people for novel experiences.
Escaping the summer heat remains a mainstream trend for summer travel. Data from Fliggy shows that cool destinations led the market this summer, with Kunming, Urumqi, Guiyang, Qingdao, Harbin, Dalian, Lanzhou, Dali, Xining, and Hohhot being the top ten most popular summer getaways. Aba, Yili, Altay, Ganzi, and Diqing were considered "dark horses" in the summer travel market, with an average growth rate of nearly 70%. (Source: Beijing Business Daily)
