Risk mitigation measures initiated for landslides on the outskirts of Tiger Leaping Gorge in Yunnan; protective netting to be installed.
On September 1st, a small-scale landslide occurred again on the northern side of the Tiger Leaping Gorge scenic area in Shangri-La, Yunnan Province. The landslide occurred approximately 200 meters from the scenic area's viewing platform, and no casualties were reported. Following the incident, the Natural Resources Bureau and the Culture and Tourism Bureau, in conjunction with the township government, arranged for geological disaster experts to investigate the affected area, delineate danger zones and impact zones, increase warning signs and cordon tape, and propose specific emergency response recommendations, including emergency evacuation and personnel management.
Starting September 3rd, the scenic area has initiated hazard mitigation operations in the landslide area. Construction workers are using drones to transport mitigation equipment to the mountaintop and are organizing the work in an orderly manner. After the mitigation is completed, protective netting will be installed near the landslide site, and the related project is expected to be completed by the end of October. At the same time, the scenic area has expanded the coverage of its slope radar monitoring, implementing 24-hour dynamic monitoring of the mountain. The frequency of patrols and lookouts has also been increased, and fixed observation posts have been added in key areas to ensure early detection and early warning of risks. Safety signs and emergency evacuation guidelines have been improved at key locations, clearly marking evacuation routes and assembly points to ensure that tourists can respond quickly and orderly in case of emergencies.
