According to the Immigration Management Cooperation Sub-Forum of the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum (Lianyungang) 2026 held in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province on September 10, from January to August 2026, border inspection authorities nationwide inspected a total of 499 million inbound and outbound passengers, an increase of 8.7% year-on-year; among them, 242 million were mainland residents, 196 million were residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 61.287 million were foreigners, representing year-on-year increases of 10%, 8.9%, and 19.5%, respectively.

Of the foreign visitors, 23.72 million entered visa-free, accounting for 77.6%, a year-on-year increase of 26.8%. A total of 28.148 million inbound and outbound means of transport (trains, ships, vehicles) were inspected, a year-on-year increase of 15%; including 665,000 aircraft, 75,000 trains, 306,000 ships, and 27.102 million vehicles, representing year-on-year increases of 0.5%, 5.6%, 4.1%, and 15.6%, respectively.

A relevant official from the National Immigration Administration stated that in recent years, in order to ensure the efficient cross-border flow of personnel and better serve high-level opening-up and high-quality development, the National Immigration Administration has continuously introduced a series of convenient measures to serve and protect the entry and exit of Chinese citizens and facilitate the entry of foreign nationals into China. The customs clearance time for Chinese and foreign passengers and means of transportation has been significantly shortened, and the convenience of customs clearance at ports has been continuously improved.

Next, the National Immigration Administration will continue to promote innovation in immigration management policies and systems, actively optimize the regional opening-up layout, innovate and optimize border inspection models, vigorously improve the efficiency of government services, and continuously enhance the port clearance efficiency for personnel, goods, and means of transport, making trade and economic exchanges between Chinese and foreign personnel more convenient and smooth, and helping to transform a larger "entry and exit flow" into a larger "economic increment."
