On August 17, in response to online reports of a large number of thumbtacks on a beach in Sanya, Hainan, Sanya police stated that all the thumbtacks scattered on the beach had been cleaned up, and no reports of injuries had been received. Police also conducted a thorough search of adjacent beaches and found no similar incidents.

On August 16, a video showing thumbtacks hidden on a Sanya beach circulated online, raising public concerns about safety while enjoying beach activities. The video shows several thumbtacks scattered in the sand; their small size and similar color to the sand make them easily concealed, posing a significant risk of injury to barefoot tourists. According to the location tracker of the video, the incident occurred near the intersection of Haipo 11th Lane and Sanya Bay Road in Tianya District, Sanya City.

Following the incident, the hotel near the beach immediately reported it to the police. Local police quickly intervened, simultaneously conducting a comprehensive, grid-like search of the beach and adjacent areas in conjunction with relevant departments, clearing away scattered thumbtacks and completely eliminating the public safety hazard.

Police stated that they have formally accepted the case, and as of now, they have not received any reports or feedback from tourists or citizens who have been injured by thumbtacks. The safety hazards on the beach have been essentially eliminated. (Source: CNR.cn)
