Heavy rainfall is expected in Shaanxi and Sichuan, while temperatures in the north are significantly lower than normal, resulting in a noticeable autumn chill.
Today (September 9th), affected by cold air, rainfall remains widespread, with heavy to torrential rain in parts of Shaanxi and Sichuan, and localized extremely heavy rain. Tomorrow, the area affected by heavy rainfall will shrink significantly. Regarding temperatures, as the cold air moves eastward and southward, temperatures in central and eastern China will drop from north to south. After the temperature drop, temperatures across the region will generally fall below the average for this time of year. The temperature drop will be more pronounced in the north, while in the south, although the drop will be less intense, many areas will experience a significant reduction in summer heat.
Heavy rainfall is expected in Shaanxi and Sichuan areas; precautions against secondary disasters should be strengthened.
Yesterday, cold air continued to affect northern regions, with significant temperature drops in Northwest, North, and Huanghuai areas. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall occurred in Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, and Sichuan, with some areas experiencing heavy to torrential rain. Localized areas in Chengdu and Deyang in Sichuan, and Haibei in Qinghai, experienced extremely heavy rain.
The cold air is expected to continue moving southward today, with heavy rainfall concentrated in areas from southern Shaanxi to western Sichuan Basin, where heavy to torrential rain is possible, and in some areas, extremely heavy rain. Tomorrow, the area affected by heavy rainfall will shrink significantly.
Specifically, the National Meteorological Center forecasts that today, parts of eastern and southern Gansu, southwestern Shaanxi, northern Sichuan Plateau, western and southern Sichuan Basin, northwestern Guizhou, and western Yunnan will experience heavy to torrential rain, with some areas in western and southern Sichuan Basin experiencing extremely heavy rain.
Tomorrow, moderate to heavy rain is expected in parts of southern Shaanxi, northern Sichuan Basin, western Qinghai, northern Tibet, western Sichuan Plateau, most of Yunnan, and southern Guangxi.
The day after tomorrow, moderate to heavy rain is expected in parts of western Yunnan and eastern Hainan Island.
It is important to note that the rainfall in Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, and other areas will be prolonged, with some areas experiencing large cumulative rainfall. Given the fragile geological conditions, the risk of disasters caused by the heavy rain is high. It is necessary to guard against secondary disasters such as flash floods, mudslides, and flooding of small and medium-sized rivers that may be triggered by continuous or localized heavy rainfall. Following this rainfall, from the 11th to the 13th, there will be more rainfall in the Sichuan Basin and the central and eastern parts of Northwest China, potentially marking the beginning of this year's autumn rains in western China.
Lower temperatures in the north and a noticeable autumn chill highlight the reduction of summer heat in many parts of the south.
Over the next two days, cold air will gradually move southward, bringing cooling temperatures to central and eastern China from north to south. After the temperature drop, temperatures across the region will generally fall below the average for this time of year. The cooling will be more pronounced in the north, with a more significant decrease in temperatures. Today, it is expected that the maximum temperature in many parts of Inner Mongolia and Shanxi will be below 20℃, while the maximum temperature in most parts of Northeast China will be around 20℃, making it noticeably cool.
In major cities like Xining, the highest temperature today will be below 15℃ and the lowest temperature below 10℃, making it feel chilly.
Comparatively speaking, the temperature drop in the south will be less severe, but the heat in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River will generally be significantly reduced; while the maximum temperature in most parts of South China will remain above 30℃, with muggy conditions prevailing.
In major cities, Chongqing's high temperature today will still reach 37℃, but tomorrow and the day after, the high temperature will drop to 30℃ or below, and the low temperature will gradually drop below 25℃, making it much cooler. Chengdu's high temperature tomorrow will drop to 22℃, and the low temperature will be below 20℃, setting a new low since the beginning of autumn this year, possibly marking the official arrival of autumn.
Looking ahead, after this cold air mass passes, most of northern China will experience mostly sunny weather with little precipitation in the first few days of mid-September, and the crisp autumn air will become even more pronounced in many parts of North China.
China Weather Network reminds the public that we are currently in the transition period from summer to autumn, with active cold air masses. Please pay close attention to weather changes, adjust your clothing accordingly, and take precautions against catching a cold. At the same time, it is also important to stay hydrated to prevent autumn dryness. (Source: China Weather Network)
