A leisurely 7-day trip to Yantai: 7 days and 6 nights of in-depth exploration, including a choice between two nearby suburbs and gentle slope suggestions for seniors and children.

Yantai's main urban area is laid out in a strip along the Yellow Sea, with most attractions within a 20-minute drive. However, if you want to explore the coastline, islands, wineries, and nearby mountains, you'll need to cut back on your 7-day, 6-night itinerary. The following itinerary centers on coastal accommodations in Zhifu District or Laishan District, focusing on only 2 to 3 key destinations each day. It's suitable for families with elderly members, children, or those who don't want to travel much after taking time off work.

Day 1: Upon arrival, we only explored a section of the coastline.

We recommend choosing an afternoon flight or high-speed train. After checking in, walk to the seaside plaza. First, stroll along the wooden boardwalk on the north side of the plaza to see the Yantaishan Lighthouse and the sea in the direction of Kongtong Island. Around sunset, turn into the Chaoyang Street historical district and walk along the stone-paved streets to see the modern consulates and commercial buildings. No evening activities are scheduled for the first night, so get some rest and get used to the sea breeze.

Day 2: Three coastal stops in the city: Yantai Mountain, East Fortress, and Fisherman's Wharf

Enter Yantaishan Scenic Area from the east gate in the morning, and walk up the gentle slope to the lighthouse platform. The park is mostly paved with stone slabs, and wheelchairs can reach the halfway point. After descending the mountain, take a bus to the East Fortress, and walk along the seaside boardwalk to Moon Bay. This section is relatively flat and suitable for the elderly. In the afternoon, visit Haichang Fisherman's Wharf. Only the seaside boardwalk and the exterior of the whale shark aquarium are included; no performances are scheduled.

Day 3-Day 4 Branch 1: Penglai Ancient City and Hot Springs

If your travel companions prefer ancient architecture and a more comfortable experience, you can choose the Penglai route. On the first day, take a 1.5-hour drive from Yantai city to Penglai Pavilion, focusing on Penglai Water City, Tianhou Palace, and Bifeng Pavilion. Walk leisurely along the Tianheng Mountain boardwalk, avoiding the Dengzhou Ancient Market commercial street to conserve energy. Overnight in Penglai. On the second day, head to Aishan Hot Springs in the morning, choosing the outdoor medium-low temperature pool area; limit the time for the elderly and children to 40 minutes or less. Return to Yantai city in the afternoon and conclude the day with a stroll in Jinshatan Beach Park.

Day 3-Day 4, Branch 2: Kunyu Mountain Nature Reserve and Yangma Island

If your travel companions prefer to avoid crowds and enjoy mountains and islands, this itinerary is recommended. On the first day, depart early for Kunyu Mountain National Nature Reserve, entering through either Shimenli or Taiboding entrances. Only use the shuttle bus route and the gentle lakeside walking path, avoiding undeveloped trails. On the second day, arrive at Yangma Island in the morning and drive or cycle counter-clockwise around the island, focusing on the rocky beach north of Tianma Square and the Houhai pedestrian path. Return to the city in the afternoon to rest.

Day 5 Wine Culture Museum and Old Town Slope

In the morning, visit the Zhangyu Wine Culture Museum. The cellars and exhibition halls are mostly indoors with flat paths, making it a good rest stop. In the afternoon, visit Yuhuangding Park. From the east gate, take the gentle slope up to the Jade Emperor Pavilion for views of the old city and harbor. The park has many stone steps, but they are not steep. If time permits, you can also visit the Yantai City Museum, which features the permanent exhibition "Ancient Charm of Mountains and Seas." Half an hour should be sufficient.

Day 6 Golden Beach and Housha Square

Dedicate the most relaxing day to the development zone's coastline. Golden Beach boasts soft, fine sand, perfect for children to play in at low tide, and the shoreline is flat. First, stroll along Tianma Pier, then head to Housha Square to watch the fishing boats return to port. Lunch can be enjoyed nearby. No cross-district travel is planned for the afternoon to avoid traffic congestion on the return journey and disrupt your rest.

Day 7: Light-hearted wrap-up before the return trip

In the morning, depending on your return travel time, you can choose to take some morning photos on Chaoyang Street or take a walk along the promenade on the east side of the First Bathing Beach. Both Yantai Station and Yantai South Station have high-speed rail service. The airport is quite far from the city center, so it's recommended to leave at least 2 hours in advance. If you are traveling with elderly people, avoid visiting places like Zhangyu or Penglai on your return day that require queuing.

Recommended gentle slope routes suitable for the elderly and children

From the East Gate of Yantai Mountain Scenic Area to the Lighthouse Platform: The slope is gentle, the main road is wide, and wheelchairs can be pushed up to the halfway point. From the East Fortress to the Moon Bay Seaside Boardwalk: There is almost no elevation difference, and the one-way distance is about 1.2 kilometers. The Golden Beach Coastal Trail: The entire trail is flat and suitable for strollers. The Penglai Tian Hengshan Boardwalk: There are a few steps, and it is recommended to enter from the south entrance and avoid the steep west slope. For Kunyu Mountain, only the lakeside trail is selected; the summit is not climbed.

List of frequently used local apps

Navigation and Public Transportation: Gaode Map, Yantai Public Transportation, or Chelaile; Dining and Reviews: Meituan, Dianping; Weather: Moji Weather or China Weather; Intercity Transportation: 12306 Railway; Taxi: Didi Chuxing. Yantai public transportation supports QR code payment, and bus services between Laishan District and Zhifu District are relatively frequent.

Clothing suggestions for rainy and dry seasons

July and August are the rainy season in Yantai, with high humidity and sticky sea breezes. It's recommended to bring quick-drying short-sleeved shirts, a light jacket, non-slip sandals, and a folding umbrella. Bring a light jacket for the mornings and evenings at the beach. November to March is the dry season, with dry and cold air. Prepare a windproof jacket, a fleece inner layer, and a hat. The perceived temperature at the beach is 3 to 5 degrees Celsius lower than in the city. In spring and autumn, there are large temperature differences between day and night; layering with a lighter inner layer and a thicker outer layer is recommended.
