Don't book overnight stays in Taizhou haphazardly | A list of pitfalls to avoid within 2 kilometers of four major transportation hubs: high-speed rail, airport, passenger transport, and subway (applic

Having transited through Taizhou overnight for three consecutive years, I've stayed in almost every type of accommodation within two kilometers of the high-speed rail station, airport, bus station, and core station of the urban rail transit system. Taizhou's problem is typical: the transportation hubs are new, but the surrounding amenities are scattered. What looks close on the map is a completely different story when dragging your suitcase around at night. This article won't discuss guesthouses near scenic spots; it will only address one scenario—where to stay that's easiest and quietest if you're just passing through, catching a train, or taking an early flight.

1. Taizhou High-Speed Railway Station: Stay on the north side of Jiaozhi Old Street, a 15-minute walk or a 5-minute taxi ride.

Taizhou Station is a new station on the Hangzhou-Taizhou High-Speed Railway. The station is large and the entrance is long, but the surrounding area for overnight stays is actually concentrated in the Jiaozhi Old Street area, about 1.5 to 2 kilometers to the west. There are mid-range chain hotels, budget apartments, and a few business hotels here. I personally tested it and it takes about five minutes by taxi from the station exit to the hotel entrance, and about fifteen to twenty minutes on foot during the day. However, I do not recommend walking on your first visit at night, as some sidewalks are blocked by construction site fences, making it easy to take a long detour with luggage.

First and last train reference: High-speed trains departing from Taizhou Station begin at 6:30 AM, with the last train arriving at night generally between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM. Public transportation connections decrease significantly after 9:00 PM, so catching early trains relies mainly on ride-hailing services, which respond quickly after 5:30 AM. Suitable for tourists arriving by Hangzhou-Taizhou high-speed rail at night, transferring to an early train the next day, or only staying overnight in Jiaojiang.

Tips to avoid pitfalls: Some apartment buildings in the Jiaozhi Old Street area are located next to elevated roads or railways. When booking, be sure to specify "not facing the tracks or elevated roads," otherwise you will be woken up early in the morning by announcements and the sound of train wheels. When arriving at night with luggage, try to go directly to the ride-hailing waiting area from the exit level, and don't be misled by the "shortcuts" in the station square.

2. Taizhou Luqiao Airport: Staying in Hengjie Town is more reliable than staying overnight on an early morning flight than in the city center.

Taizhou Luqiao Airport is not large, and the only area with a decent density of accommodations within a two-kilometer radius is Hengjie Town. This area mainly consists of budget hotels and local guesthouses, about a six- to eight-minute taxi ride or a twenty-minute walk during the day, but there are almost no proper pedestrian walkways, so walking at night is not recommended. I had a bad experience once: I thought I could easily hail a taxi at the airport entrance, but it was raining lightly after my late flight landed, and I waited almost twenty minutes to get a ride because there wasn't much available transportation in the area.

First and last bus reference: Buses to Luqiao Airport are infrequent, so don't bother with them after dusk. Avoid taking the bus if you have an early morning flight. Getting a taxi from Hengjie town to the airport is convenient; ride-hailing services are available between 4:30 and 5:00 AM, but it's recommended to discuss with the driver the night before or have the front desk help you book a ride. This is suitable for those arriving on early morning flights, red-eye flights, or those transferring to Wenling or Luqiao city the next morning.

Tips to avoid pitfalls: Hotels in Hengjie Town generally have poor soundproofing; it's best to choose rooms on back streets. Roads around the airport have poor nighttime lighting; avoid village roads with your luggage, stick to main roads and keep your phone charged. Don't believe receptionists who say "it's very close and within walking distance" unless you're not carrying luggage and it's daytime.

3. Taizhou Bus Terminal: Located on the east side of Baiyun Street, it is the preferred destination for overnight buses.

Taizhou Bus Terminal is located in Jiaojiang District. The Baiyun Street area within a two-kilometer radius is a well-established residential area with mid-range chain hotels, long-established hotels, and a few budget apartments. It's about a ten- to twelve-minute walk from the bus terminal, or the time it takes to hail a taxi for the starting fare. The biggest advantage of staying here is the abundance of convenience stores and late-night eateries nearby, ensuring you won't be hungry when checking in late at night.

First and last bus reference: The last passenger bus usually departs between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM, but inter-provincial buses are occasionally delayed. After exiting the station, the latest connecting bus is around 9:00 PM. For tourists transferring to Jiaojiang No. 7 Wharf or Dachen Island to catch a ferry the next day, staying here means you can reach the wharf by taxi in the morning within ten minutes. Suitable for people transferring between surrounding counties and cities, arriving by late-night bus, or those doing business or sightseeing in Jiaojiang the next day.

Avoid these pitfalls: There are always people soliciting for accommodation near the bus terminal entrance, offering seemingly cheap prices, but hygiene and soundproofing are questionable. I recommend booking mid-range chain hotels along the main road in Baiyun Street in advance through a booking platform, and don't just follow people out of the station. If you're looking for a room facing the street, choose a higher floor; otherwise, the announcements from early morning buses and traffic noise will disturb your sleep.

4. S1 Line Xueyuan Road Station: For those staying in the "Taizhou University/Pingqiao Snack Street area", the subway offers the most flexible option for overnight stays across cities.

The Taizhou S1 urban rail line is a major transfer point for many people traveling from Wenling and Luqiao to Jiaojiang. Within a two-kilometer radius of the core station, "Xueyuanlu Station," lies Taizhou University and the Pingqiao snack street, a popular area with many students, late-night eateries, and affordable accommodations. It's about a 10-15 minute walk or a 3-5 minute taxi ride. Whenever I take the S1 from Wenling to catch an early high-speed train, I stay here the night before, eat at the Pingqiao snack street, and then go back to my room. It's a much more comfortable experience than simply rushing.

First and last train reference: The first train from Xueyuanlu Station departs around 6:30 AM, and the last train departs around 9:30 PM. There may be occasional delays on Fridays or holidays, but avoid waiting in line. Taking the early high-speed train to Taizhou Station is recommended; a taxi ride from there takes about 15 minutes, offering more dining options than staying directly near Taizhou Station. For the subway towards Wenling, departing after 6:30 AM is more reliable. This option is suitable for tourists using the S1 line to transfer between Jiaojiang, Luqiao, and Wenling.

Tips to avoid: The Pingqiao Snack Street area is lively at night, but rooms along the street can be noisy. If you prefer quiet, avoid choosing a lower-floor room directly facing the snack street. Also, the S1 subway stops running early. If you get back to the hotel after 9:30 PM, you'll have to take a taxi. Don't book with the expectation of "getting back late at night by subway".

Taizhou overnight stay summary and practical tips

Choose from four areas based on your needs: For overnight or early morning high-speed rail arrivals, stay on the north side of Jiaozhi Old Street; for early morning or red-eye flights, stay in Hengjie Town; for overnight bus arrivals, stay on the east side of Baiyun Street; for cross-city travel via the S1 line, stay near Xueyuan Road Station/Pingqiao Snack Street. These four locations are not considered trendy accommodation areas, but they are conveniently located near transportation hubs, cost-effective, and require minimal travel.

Practical tips: Getting a ride around Taizhou transportation hub at night is generally not as fast as in Hangzhou or Ningbo, so it's recommended to place an order 10 minutes before arrival; don't follow those soliciting guests for accommodation near the high-speed rail station and bus station; for all descriptions of "a few minutes' walk to the hub," add 5 minutes if you're carrying luggage; soundproofing is a common weakness of budget accommodations in Taizhou, so making a note when booking is more effective than changing rooms upon arrival.
