Strolling Through Jinan | A Three-Day Poetic Spring Water Journey for Families
Jinan, renowned as the "City of Springs," boasts a unique spring culture, profound historical heritage, and pleasant scenery, making it an ideal destination for family trips. XOOTOUR's experienced destination columnist has meticulously planned a three-day, two-night itinerary for you and your family, helping you fully enjoy the poetry and vitality of Shandong amidst the babbling springs.
Day 1: The Source of the Spring and the Charm of the Old Town
Morning: Baotu Spring Park
The itinerary begins at Baotu Spring, a landmark of Jinan. Known as the "Number One Spring Under Heaven," Baotu Spring's three springs gush forth day and night, splashing water with magnificent force. The park's pavilions, towers, bridges, and flowing water create a beautiful picture of a Jiangnan garden. It is recommended to allow 2-3 hours to experience the charm of the spring's culture.
Lunch: Quancheng Road/Kuanhouli area
Near Baotu Spring, you can choose to dine in the Quancheng Road or Kuanhouli area. This area is home to many local specialty snacks and restaurants, such as sweet porridge and fried dough twists, making it easy to experience authentic Jinan flavors.
Afternoon: Black Tiger Spring, Quancheng Square and Kuanhouli
After lunch, walk to Black Tiger Spring to witness the spectacular sight of water gushing from the three animal heads. Locals often draw water from the spring, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Afterwards, stroll to Quancheng Square to feel the pulse of modern city life. In the evening, move to Kuanhouli Historical and Cultural District, which retains the architectural style of old Jinan. Lined with snack and handicraft shops, it's an ideal place to savor a slower pace of life, buy souvenirs, and explore with family.
Evening: Night cruise on Daming Lake
As night falls, Daming Lake reveals a different kind of charm. A boat trip on Daming Lake at night, with its dazzling lights, makes the lake and mountain scenery even more tranquil and romantic. Willows sway along the shore, and ancient buildings are brightly lit. You can also stroll along the lakeside and experience the poetic imagery of "lotuses on all four sides, willows on three, mountains in one half of the city, and lake in the other half."
Day 2: Qilu Culture and City Panorama
Morning: Shandong Provincial Museum
After breakfast, we will visit the Shandong Provincial Museum, the best window into understanding Qilu culture and Shandong history. The museum boasts a rich collection, ranging from prehistoric civilizations to Ming and Qing dynasty artifacts, covering important historical periods in Shandong. Advance reservations are recommended. We suggest choosing key exhibits based on your child's interests, such as dinosaur fossils or bronzes, for an educational and entertaining experience. Please allow 3-4 hours.
Lunch: Around the museum or back to the city center
There are restaurants near the museum, or you can choose to return to the city center to enjoy different flavors of Shandong cuisine.
Afternoon: Thousand Buddha Mountain Scenic Area
In the afternoon, head to Thousand Buddha Mountain for a panoramic view of Jinan. Thousand Buddha Mountain is not only a famous Buddhist mountain but also Jinan's natural oxygen bar. You can choose to hike or take the cable car to the summit, making it especially suitable for families with children. Attractions at the summit, such as Xingguo Temple and Wanfo Cave, are worth visiting. A visit of 2-3 hours is recommended.
Evening: Free time
After a day of cultural and natural exploration, you can choose to rest at the hotel, take another stroll along the Daming Lake, or enjoy shopping and dining in the Quancheng Road commercial district.
Day 3: Choose one of two options in the suburbs: a family-friendly amusement park or a natural retreat.
On the third day, we offer two suburban options for you to choose from based on your family's preferences and your children's ages.
Option 1: Jinan Wildlife World
For animal-loving families, Jinan Wildlife World is an excellent choice. The park boasts a diverse range of animals, both free-range and captive. Visitors can take a mini-train or drive through the predator enclosure for close-up observation; the walking area allows interaction with gentler animals and viewing performances. It's an ideal place for children to connect with nature and expand their knowledge. It's recommended to allow at least half a day for your visit.
Option 2: Zhangqiu Baimai Spring Park
If you prefer tranquil natural scenery and a unique spring experience, you can choose to visit Zhangqiu Baimai Spring Park. Baimai Spring is as famous as Baotu Spring, with clear, sweet water that gushes forth year-round. The park boasts a beautiful environment, with pavilions and terraces complementing the spring landscape, and also features cultural attractions such as Longquan Temple and Qingzhao Poetry Garden. It's relatively less crowded, making it suitable for a leisurely family stroll, allowing you to experience the fusion of spring water and history, and enjoy a unique spring experience different from that in the city. It is recommended to allow 3-4 hours.
