These 4 Chongqing Hub Accommodation Areas | A List of Overnight Stay Pitfalls I Tried and Tested (Firsthand Experience with Early Flights/Overnight Arrivals/Transit Points)

After three consecutive years of mistakenly wandering between the North and South plazas of Chongqing North Railway Station while dragging my suitcase, I decided to stop focusing solely on Jiefangbei and Guanyinqiao and instead revisit the areas within two kilometers of Chongqing's major transportation hubs for overnight stays. This isn't a recommendation for accommodations near tourist attractions, but rather a personally tested and reliable list of places to avoid, specifically for those needing to find a place to stay near high-speed rail stations, airports, long-distance bus stations, and major subway transfer stations.

Chongqing North Railway Station: When staying between Longtousi and Shiziping, don't just look at the straight-line distance.

The most reliable and cost-effective area within two kilometers of Chongqing North Railway Station is actually the area from the east side of Longtousi Park to Shiziping Light Rail Station. This area is a mix of local residential areas and chain hotels. It's about an eight-to-ten-minute walk from the North Square railway arrivals area of Chongqing North Railway Station. Coming from the South Square is a bit of a detour; it's recommended to take the light rail for one stop or a taxi (within the starting fare). Metro Lines 3, 10, and the Loop Line intersect in this area. The first train usually departs around 6:30 AM, and the last train is close to 11:00 AM, so you can generally catch a late high-speed train.

The target audience is clearly defined: people arriving by high-speed rail after 10 PM and needing to transfer to the airport or West Railway Station early the next morning, as well as transit passengers with large luggage who don't want to climb the hills in the old city of Yuzhong. Tips to avoid pitfalls are also straightforward: although the north and south plazas of Chongqing North Railway Station are now connected, the exit signs can still easily lead to getting lost on the basement level. It's recommended to confirm which station your train is at before departure; also, some hotels in Shiziping are right next to the railway line, and you can hear the low-frequency noise of trains entering and leaving the station at night. When checking in, simply tell the front desk you want a room "facing away from the tracks, on a higher floor."

In terms of price, this area is mainly affordable and mid-range. You can stay in a chain hotel with independent access control for tens to hundreds of yuan per person, which is much better than taking a taxi to Jiefangbei and being deterred by the old building elevator.

Jiangbei Airport: Located in the Bijin Shuanglonghu area of Lianglu District, early morning flights are more comfortable than staying in airport hotels.

Many people assume that the "Airport Grand Hotel" is the best option around Jiangbei Airport, but based on my personal experience, I recommend heading south a bit to the Bijin Park and Shuanglong Lake area in Lianglu District. It's about one kilometer from Terminal 2, a 5-8 minute taxi ride, and about three kilometers from Terminal 3, a 10-15 minute taxi ride. At night, when traffic is light, it's quick. Metro Lines 10 and 3 cover the area. The first train to the airport departs around 6:30 AM, and the last train runs after 11:00 AM, but if you're catching an early flight, don't wait for the last train; taking a taxi is a safer option.

This is suitable for those who land on a red-eye flight in the early morning and don't want to go into the city, or those whose flights depart before 7:00 AM and need to spend the night near the airport. There are local restaurants and night market stalls near Bijin Park in the evenings, which is much more comfortable than sitting idly in the terminal. Key points to avoid: there are often unofficial touts on the airport arrival level; don't go with them late at night with your luggage. Use a ride-hailing platform or stay in a chain hotel with a front desk. Some hotels located below the runway, converted from old residential buildings, will have flight noise starting as early as 5:00 AM; light sleepers should choose rooms on the east side of Shuanglong Lake, facing away from the runway.

Prices range from budget-friendly community hotels to mid-range chains, with an average cost of tens to hundreds of yuan per person, making it more cost-effective than the often doubled room rates at airports.

Hongqihegou Bus Station: Located in the old Hongjin Road community behind the roundabout, it offers a more convenient overnight bus transfer.

Hongqihegou Bus Station is an important long-distance bus hub in Chongqing, serving routes to Wulong, Wanzhou, Fuling, and other destinations. However, many people overlook the Hongjin Road and Yanghe Old Community, which are just a five- to eight-minute walk away. It's very close to the bus station exit; a taxi ride there would cost only the starting fare. The station is also near the Hongqihegou Station, a transfer point for Metro Lines 3 and 6. The first bus departs around 6:30 AM, and the last bus arrives around 11:00 AM, providing sufficient early and late connections for long-distance buses.

This is suitable for two types of people: first, transit passengers arriving in Chongqing late at night by long-distance bus and then transferring to a high-speed train or plane the next day; second, travelers planning to take a bus from Hongqihegou to Wulong, Wanzhou, or other places early in the morning. Tips to avoid: The Hongqihegou roundabout itself has heavy traffic and complex pedestrian crossings; do not cross the road with large suitcases, always use the subway underground passage; many apartment buildings in this area have been converted into private guesthouses with combination locks, and the access control and soundproofing are unreliable. If you have a limited budget, try to choose a guesthouse with a private reception and luggage storage.

The accommodations here are mostly budget or mid-range, costing tens to hundreds of yuan per person. There are also community hot pot and noodle shops in the evening, so you don't have to go to the shopping district to wait in long lines.

Niujiaotuo Transfer Station: Shangqingsi Old Town Area, the optimal overnight solution for the transfer between Line 2 and Line 3.

If you only need to transfer on Metro Lines 2 and 3 in Chongqing's core area and need to get to the airport, high-speed rail station, or Caiyuanba area early the next day, the Shangqingsi old town area around Niujiaotuo Station is an extremely underrated overnight option. It's only a 3-10 minute walk from the Niujiaotuo Station exit to Zhongshan Fourth Road or the Jialing River. The area boasts many established hotels and guesthouses, with prices more affordable than Jiefangbei, yet the transportation is just as good. The first trains on Lines 2 and 3 depart around 6:30 AM, and the last trains around 11:00 AM, perfectly covering normal early morning transfer needs.

This is suitable for people who need to run errands in Yuzhong District and need to transfer to Jiangbei Airport or Chongqing North Railway Station early the next morning, but don't want to pay the high premiums in the core area of Yuzhong. There are two key points to avoid: First, Niujiaotuo Station is a staggered transfer station with many entrances and exits and a large drop. If you have large luggage, it is best to check the station map before exiting the station, otherwise you will have to climb an extra floor if you take the wrong exit; Second, many old residential buildings on the side facing Jialing Road have been converted into river-view rooms. At night, there will be a slight vibration when the light rail goes around the bend. If you are a light sleeper, be sure to avoid the side facing the rail and choose a room facing the courtyard or not facing the street.

The accommodations in this area are mostly mid-range, costing around 100 yuan per person. In the morning, you can take a walk around Zhongshan Fourth Road, which offers a more local atmosphere than the monotonous chain hotels.

Blogger's Summary and Overnight Tips Checklist

These four areas aren't the most popular tourist destinations in Chongqing, but they're perfect for those who really need a quick and easy transit experience. Instead of wasting time getting into and out of the city and climbing hills, it's better to place your overnight stay within two kilometers of a transportation hub, saving time and taxi fares.

1. When checking the location of a hotel, don't just look at the straight-line distance. Take a screenshot first and ask which exit from the high-speed rail station or airport is the shortest to walk from.

Second, for early morning flights or high-speed trains, don't blindly trust labels like "airport hotel" or "high-speed rail hotel." Prioritize checking if there's a shuttle service to the station or if it's easy to hail a taxi early in the morning.

3. When arriving at the station late at night, try to choose accommodations with a 24-hour front desk or a clear self-check-in process; otherwise, you may have to wait for the password at the door in the middle of the night.

Fourth, when staying in accommodations near railway tracks or converted from old residential buildings, be sure to ask about the room's orientation, as poor sound insulation is a common problem in old buildings in Chongqing;

5. Chongqing is often rainy and foggy. Be careful to avoid slipping when walking with your luggage. In the hub area, it is best to call a taxi 5 to 10 minutes in advance.
